Interactive Fabric Simulation
Empowering full-body interaction with a computational spring-mass cloth simulation.
Fabric is an exploration in immersive gestural interaction. The goal was to create an intuitive experience where a user can reach into an environment and shape what they see. This prototype uses a cloth simulation with a spring-mass system.
Interaction is implemented using the PhaseSpace active LED tracking system and an LED glove. Pinch gestures are recognized when each fingertip LED is within a small threshold distance of the thumb LED. The user’s head is tracked by a single LED; interaction rays are shot from the head position toward the glove and intersect with parts of the environment.
